Catbird Calls

Delightful to hear a catbird participating in the dawn chorus. Thought at first it was the mockingbird, but looked above to the silhouette on the power line, and the little singer's tail was much shorter than a mockingbird's. However, couldn't be sure it was a catbird until I came home and found a website where I could listen . I have no trouble recognizing the catbird's alarm call, so like a feline in distress. But his varied song is less often identifiable -- and he's usually not singing in plain sight.
