A sturdy Magnolia grandiflora

Magnolia grandiflora beside Avalon Hall

For more about this thriving old tree, and the roses and peonies and green lawns near it, see today's post, Flood Survivors , at my other blog, "Mary's Musings."

On my walk yesterday morning I was pleased to see that most of the trees and other plantings on the Lipscomb University campus, including this magnolia, had come through the unprecedentedly heavy rainstorms the first weekend of May, 2010, with no apparent damage.
